Terms of licence

In short. Backcast Labs is in early access and not on sale yet. These are the planned licence terms: a perpetual licence for up to three devices, personally or commercially, with optional updates. Final terms will be published before sale.

1 · Licence grant

Mast intends to grant the purchaser a non-exclusive, perpetual, non-transferable licence to install and use Backcast Labs and its engine on up to three (3) devices under the purchaser's control, for personal or commercial purposes.

2 · Updates

Twelve months of updates are included. Thereafter, updates are available under an optional annual update contract. On expiry, the licence remains valid for the most recent version delivered during the contract period — the “fallback version”.

3 · Restrictions

You may not redistribute, sublicense, rent or sell the software or any data pack; reverse-engineer the licensing mechanism; or use the software to provide backtesting as a hosted service to third parties without a separate agreement.

4 · Warranty

The software is provided “as is”. Mast intends to warrant that it will substantially perform as documented for 14 days after purchase; the sole remedy is a refund under the Refunds tab.

5 · Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Mast is not liable for trading losses, lost profits or consequential damages arising from use of the software, including from defects in the engine, errors in data or misinterpretation of results.

Privacy

In short. There are no accounts and no sales yet. If you e-mail us for early access, we keep your e-mail address and your message to reply and to tell you when early access opens. The planned engine runs locally and has no telemetry.

What we collect today

Early-access e-mails: your e-mail address and what you wrote, kept until you ask us to delete them
Nothing else — this site has no sign-in, no checkout and no forms that store data

What the planned engine will not collect

Strategy code, backtest results or reports
Market data you import or pull with your own keys
API keys — they are encrypted locally with an OS-keychain-derived key
Usage telemetry: there is none in the engine or the interface

In short. Backtests are hypothetical. Past performance — simulated or real — does not guarantee future results. Nothing on this site is investment advice. You can lose money.

Backcast Labs is planned analysis software. It does not execute trades, hold funds or provide investment advice. All performance figures shown on this website, in the guest notebook, in the documentation and in working papers are hypothetical, are based on synthetic or historical data, and do not represent actual trading results.

Hypothetical performance has inherent limitations: it is prepared with the benefit of hindsight, does not account for all market frictions — liquidity vacuums, exchange outages, funding spikes — and no representation is made that any account will achieve results similar to those shown. Strategies that pass every validation step in Backcast Labs can and do lose money live.

Trading derivatives such as perpetual futures carries a risk of loss exceeding deposits. Backcast Labs does not recommend borrowing to trade. Default sizing in exported configurations is conservative — Kelly 0.25, a 7.5 % per-asset cap and a −20 % drawdown halt; changing those defaults is your decision and your risk. Consult a licensed financial adviser before trading real capital.

Data licensing

In short. Data pulled with your own API keys is between you and your provider — we never see it. Data packs are licensed to you for local use; you may not redistribute them.

Your own keys

When you connect exchange or broker API keys, the engine pulls data directly from that provider to your machine under your agreement with the provider. Backcast Labs is not a party to that transfer and does not receive, proxy or store the data or the keys. Use read-only keys for backtesting.

Data packs

Data packs are compiled from exchange archives, public filings and licensed vendors. The planned terms: a pack grants a perpetual licence to use it locally on your licensed devices, for personal or commercial research. You may not redistribute, resell, publish or provide the pack — or substantial extracts of it — to third parties, or use it to build a competing data product. Packs are signed; the engine refuses modified packs.

Integrity commitments

Packs include delisted symbols, apply and document corporate actions, normalize timestamps to UTC and ship with a SHA-256 manifest. Corrections are planned to ship as free refreshes to all holders of the affected pack regardless of update-contract status.

Refunds

In short. Nothing is on sale yet, so there is nothing to refund. Refund terms will be published here before Backcast Labs goes on sale.
