Definition. A perpetual licence here means the engine does not phone home to keep working. Licence checks are offline after activation; only downloading a new version checks whether your update contract is active.
The quant reviewer

What the agent does, and where it sits

The reviewer is not an upsell. Every plan it runs, every standing mandate and every honest refusal is in the free guest notebook already — go and make it say no to you. What the planned licence adds is the same reviewer pointed at your own history, on your own machine, with its record kept between sessions.

Table 1. Reviewer capabilities by planned tier. Figures are the ones the guest notebook prints on its default run.

Read this before you want it for the agent. Its most common answer is “Nothing crossed”, and its verdict on the guest notebook's own default run is “Not yet. It clears the noise bar, but not every check agrees.” If you want software that agrees with you, this is the wrong €299.
The update contract

What “lifetime + optional updates” actually means

The licence is yours. The update contract only decides which versions you receive.

Day 0

Buy

€299 planned. A perpetual licence for three devices and the current engine. Twelve months of updates are included.

Months 1–12

Updates active

Every release lands in your account: v1.8.x fixes, v1.9 features, new data-pack refreshes. Nothing to do.

Month 13

You stop paying

No renewal? Your licence stays valid. You keep the last version you received — say v1.9.4 — forever, on all three devices.

Later

Resume, optional

Pay €99 for a new year and jump straight to the current release. No penalty, no back-payments.

This is a perpetual-fallback licence: the version you have keeps working. Planned pricing can change before launch.

Ownership vs subscription

What three years actually cost

Software plus one crypto tick data pack, on planned pricing, next to the shape of a typical subscription platform. We do not quote other companies' prices here.

Historical data

Backcast Labs is planned without a data subscription. History is sold once, per market and period: survivorship-bias-free, corporate actions applied, timestamps normalized, SHA-256 checksummed. Refreshes are free while an update contract is active, otherwise €19 per refresh.

FAQ

Planned licensing

Can I buy it today?
No. Backcast Labs is in early access and not on sale yet. Join early access and we will let you know when it opens. Everything on this page is planned pricing.
How many machines will a licence cover?
Three concurrent devices per licence is the plan — desktop, laptop and a server is the usual mix.
Can I try it first?
Yes. The notebook demo runs the interface in your browser on simulated data, with no account. The refund terms for the installed product will be published before it goes on sale.
Will I need a data pack?
No. The plan is that your own exchange or broker keys pull history within their API limits. Data packs are for what those keys cannot give you: delisted symbols, older history, normalized tick data and options chains.
What if a release breaks my strategy?
Every release is planned to be tagged, so you can pin the engine to any version you have received. Reports embed the engine hash, so a result can always be reproduced on the version it was made with.
Will commercial use be allowed?
That is the plan: personal and commercial use by the licence holder. Team terms will be published with launch.
What happens if I never renew?
Nothing stops working. The engine keeps running offline at your fallback version on all three devices, your data packs keep loading, and your reports keep reproducing. Only new releases are gated.
Early access. Not on sale yet. Planned: €299 once, no bar caps, no cloud queue.
